Cast Iron Cookware– A Healthy Choice

20 Aug

We made a new purchase recently– a couple of cast iron cookware pieces.  We didn’t get a whole set, but hopefully one day we will.  The motivation behind buying the cast iron pan is for the health benefits.  Cooking in cast iron is a great way to get iron in your diet–something that many women (especially vegetarians) may need to supplement.  This is my natural supplement!

Are you a vegetarian? I was a vegan for 15 years and then vegetarian for 5 years prior to that. Only switched last year. luckily though, I was never low on iron and my bloodwork as a vegan was always good. I was low on calcium though.

Yes, I have been a vegetarian for over 10 years, but never anemic. However, I know that I need to be aware of my iron levels and this is a great way! How did you work on getting your calcium up? I’m not big on dairy, except cheese, but did have a doctor tell me one time that cheese is basically ” salted fat.” Must be why it tastes so good! Lol

We use stainless steel. Previously we had teflon coated pots/pans, but are trying to be a little bit healthier since the teflon coating is toxic.
