What Fruit and Vegetables to Buy Organic

6 Jul

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) shared the “Dirty Dozen”–a list of the 12 most chemically exposed fruits and vegetables.

Here are the top 12 fruits and veggies with the most pesticide:

  1. Apples
  2. Celery
  3. Bell peppers
  4. Peaches
  5. Strawberries
  6. Nectarines
  7. Grapes
  8. Spinach
  9. Lettuce
  10. Cucumbers
  11. Blueberries
  12. Potatoes (see my post about how much better organic potatoes taste)

They also have a list of the 15 fruits and veggies with the least amount of pesticides (with onions and avocado among others).  I wouldn’t worry so much about buying those organic if they aren’t available (although I do believe it is always the better option).

As you may transition to healthy foods, one little thing you can do to avoid exposure to pesticides is to simply buy those 12 fruits and veggies from the organically grown selection at your market, or from a local farmer’s market (or grow them on your own).  This is a great way to make a small step toward living more naturally and healthy.

Hi Roberta! Thanks for commenting. Could you tell me more about your baby’s age so I can respond appropriately? Thanks! Nicole
